Depression is a wide reaching mental health issue that can strike any individual at any time, whether physiological or psychological, acute or ongoing. It can promote lethargy, reduce optimism and interest in life, and can self-propagate itself as we often shut down when it takes hold. Exercise is an integral activity that we can engage in even while depressed to try to offset the symptoms and trigger the release of positive neurotransmitters, and 10-15 minutes of rebounding can do just that. Rebounding:
- Boosts Mood & Energy Levels: Depression often leads to feelings of low energy, sadness, and a lack of motivation. Rebounding is particularly effective for combating these feelings by increasing serotonin and dopamine levels, which are both linked to mood enhancement. The physical activity helps to combat fatigue by stimulating the body’s natural energy systems, making it easier to get through the day.
- Combats Stress & Negative Thought Patterns: The repetitive nature of rebounding helps to create a sense of control and order, which can be beneficial for individuals experiencing depression. This physical exercise also helps counteract the negative thought patterns that often accompany depression, improving overall mood and helping individuals feel more hopeful.
- Feelings of Accomplishment: Even a short workout while depressed can help us go the rest of the day feeling that even if we did little else in the way of self-improvement, at least we did that.
- Easy and Convenient: The lack of motivation that often accompanies depression makes any activity that is good for us exponentially more difficult to feel enthused towards. By having an easily accessible rebounder in the comfort of your own home, you can minimize the work involved in getting a quick workout done.
- Stay Fit: The stagnancy that can come with depression can lead to unhealthy weight gain and an increased sense of self-loathing. By staying active on a rebounder, we can offset this by, at the very least, trying to keep our physical system running smoothly and efficiently.
